About
In a fast-paced, performance-oriented, crisis-ridden life, we often feel alone, overwhelmed and stressed.
Our response to this is often to demand even more of ourselves, to want even higher, even faster and even further. The result is often deep physical and mental exhaustion.
“Without mud there is no lotus.” – Thich Nhat Hanh
Yin Therapy deliberately takes the opposite approach, using meditation, contemplation, restorative yoga and yin yoga to create an awareness of the imbalance in the body and mind. We begin to feel again what we need in life and learn to distinguish the essential from the non-essential.
“The best way to do is to be.” – Lao Tzu
In the first half of our 4-hour Yin Therapy practice (no theory), we will harmoniously connect the mind and body in movement. In this present, moment-focused state of being, there is no room for everyday thoughts. Stress falls away from us. This is meditation in motion.
In the second half, you are led deeper and deeper into stillness until all that remains is still being (without movement).

About Markus Henning Giess
Markus has received more than 10,000 hours of training in dance, yoga, massage, bodywork, anatomy, meditation and energy worksince 1990.
With over 30 years of teaching experience, Markus is an “old hand” and one of the most recognized Yin Yoga & Anatomy teachers in the German-speaking world.
Markus’ love for yoga was awakened by the world-famous power yoga rock star and yoga rebel Bryan Kest, with whom he completed a 350-hour teacher training in Mexico.
Through Bryan he became aware of Yin Yoga and the unique Yin Yoga & Anatomy teachers Paul & Suzee Grilley. Markus, now a passionate Yinster, went through a variety of Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings with Paul and Suzee and has been their assistant since the beginning of 2015.
Yin yoga, yoga anatomy, individual bone structure, chakra meditation, yoga philosophy (yoga sutras, Bhagavad Gita) are just a few of the outstanding topics covered in Paul and Suzee Grilley’s multifaceted training.
Markus also completed a Yin/Yang Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training with the incredibly inspiring Sarah Powers, founder of Insight Yoga. Her approach to blending the insights and practices of yoga with Buddhism, Taoism and transpersonal psychology is unique and fascinating and a perfect complement to Paul & Suzee’s teaching.
Karla Brodie and Neal Ghoshal, authentic and inspiring Restorative Yoga teachers, imparted their unique approach to yoga to him in their Restorative Yoga Teacher Training.
