About the event
What are the benefits of turning oneself upside down?
Why would someone want to do that?
And most importantly how can we practice inversions in a safe way?
Inversions, in which the body is upside down, defying gravity, are undoubtedly a unique characteristic of yoga. The two significant inversions are headstand (Shirshasana) and Shoulder stand (Sarvangasana) are considered the “king and queen” or “father and mother” of all asanas (yoga postures) and offer enormous physiological benefits!
Here are some of the wonderful BENEFITS of the practice of inversions:
- it boosts the major systems of the body (circulatory, respiratory, nervous and glandular)
- it gives rest to the heart. Headstand is the more stimulating and invigorating pose.
- It helps to increase memory and concentration with added blood flow to the brain and enhances mental capacity and emotional stability. Shoulderstand is the nurturing pose.
- It is cooling and quieting and a great aid to glandular and hormonal health. The glands that are responsible for controlling hormone balance in the body (pituitary, pineal, thyroid and adrenal glands) receive a proper blood supply, and are stimulated ensuring that they function effectively and efficiently.
Done together, one after the other, the inversions are both invigorating and quietening.
The nervous system is soothed and cooled and a sense of inner journey into the core of our being is being felt.
